Dry Verge Caps for Gable Ends

The verge is the sloping edge of the roof at a gable end, where the last tiles are usually bedded in mortar on an undercloak. Side winds and driving rain crack that mortar until it falls away and the edge tiles loosen. A dry verge is the right call on most interlocking concrete tile roofs once the mortar starts to fail.

How Our Dry Verge Service Works

Step 1

Check the gable

We look at the tile type, the batten ends and the state of the mortar and undercloak, to confirm dry verge is suitable for your roof.

Step 2

Clear the old verge

Loose mortar is knocked out along the full gable, edge tiles are lifted or reset, and batten ends are cut back square where they need it.

Step 3

Fit the verge units

Working up from a starter piece at the eaves, each cap is fitted over its edge tile and screwed into the batten end, locking into the one below.

Step 4

Finish and review

A ridge end cap closes the top of the verge on each side and every unit is checked for a firm fix. Before we leave, we review the completed work with you on site, then confirm everything has been done as agreed.

How do I know my verge needs replacing?

Can dry verge be fitted to any roof?

No. It is designed for tiles that take a verge cap, which means most concrete interlocking tiles. Some slate roofs, plain tiles and gables with a projecting bargeboard need a different finish. That is why we check the roof before recommending it, rather than quoting from a photo alone.

How long does dry verge take to fit?

Once access is in place, the verges on a typical gable are often done within a day. More gables, longer verges, or edge tiles and battens that need repair add time. We let you know what to expect when we send the quote, so you can plan around it.
