EPDM Rubber Roof Replacement

EPDM is a synthetic rubber supplied in large sheets, often big enough to cover a garage or extension with no joins at all. It is the right call where a felt roof keeps leaking along its seams, where a timber frame moves through the seasons, or where a torch would be unsafe beside timber. We fit RubberCover, a system with matching adhesives and trims.

  • Laid cold with adhesive, so no flame on the roof
  • Stays supple in frost and stretches as timber moves
  • Rolled firmly into the bond to push out trapped air
  • GRP suggested instead for balconies or regular foot traffic

FAQs

Rubber Roofs FAQs

Is a rubber roof better than felt?

It depends on the roof. EPDM usually has far fewer joints than felt, stays flexible in cold weather and is laid without heat. Felt is cheaper to patch in small areas and suits tighter budgets. For a roof that has leaked along felt seams, or one that sits right next to timber, rubber is often the stronger choice.

Can a rubber roof take foot traffic?

Being stood on now and then to clear leaves from a gully does no harm, but EPDM is meant to be a covering rather than a floor. Regular foot traffic, furniture or use as a balcony is better suited to GRP fibreglass, which sets hard. If you need occasional access for maintenance to a window or a vent, protective pads can be added in the right places.

How long does fitting a rubber roof take?

Most garage and extension roofs are stripped, decked and covered in one to two days. The adhesive needs a dry, reasonably mild day to bond well, so we watch the forecast and may move the start date if heavy rain is due. Bigger roofs, or ones needing joist repairs, take longer.

What affects the price of an EPDM roof?

The area of the roof, how many joins and corners it has, the condition of the deck, and how many roof lights, pipes and outlets need detailing. The length of trims and wall upstands also counts. After our visit, the written quote itemises these, showing you plainly what you are paying for.

How do I arrange a quote for a rubber roof?

Ring us, or describe the roof briefly on our quote form. We visit for a free survey to measure it and check the deck, then send a free written quote for the RubberCover system, including any board replacement and the trims and details your particular roof needs.
