Flat Roofs

Flat Roof Replacement and Repair

A new flat roof is the right call when the deck underneath has softened, water ponds after rain, or the covering is worn across its whole surface rather than in one spot. We strip back to sound timber, rebuild the deck to a proper fall and lay felt, EPDM rubber or GRP to suit the roof, be it a dormer, extension or garage.

  • Multi-layer felt, EPDM rubber or GRP fibreglass systems
  • Tapered firrings give the new deck a real fall to the outlet
  • Warm deck insulation option to cut heat loss through the ceiling
  • Upstands, door thresholds and sills checked before raising the roof level

FAQs

Flat Roofs FAQs

When is a patch no longer enough for a flat roof?

A lone tear or one peeled corner on a roof that is otherwise solid can usually be mended. Replacement makes sense when there are several leaks, the deck feels spongy underfoot, water ponds after every shower, or the covering is cracked across its whole surface. Once we have been up to see it, you will hear plainly which of the two your roof needs.

How many days will a new flat roof take?

On a small dormer or single garage, we normally strip and recover in one or two working days. A larger extension roof, or one where the deck and joists need work, takes longer. Weather plays a part too, because felt, adhesive and resin all need dry weather to go down, so start dates follow the forecast and we keep the roof covered if rain arrives partway through.

Which is best: felt, rubber or fibreglass?

There is no single answer. Felt suits straightforward roofs and is easy to patch later on. EPDM rubber comes in large sheets with very few joins and handles cold and movement well. GRP sets hard, takes foot traffic and copes with awkward shapes and balconies. We recommend one after seeing your roof and asking how you use it.

What affects the cost of a new flat roof?

Five things drive it: the square metres involved, how awkward the roof is to reach, how much of the deck needs replacing, the system you choose and whether you add warm deck insulation. Details such as roof lights, outlets and upstands against walls also add time. Your quote sets out what is included so you can compare like for like.

What happens when I ask for a flat roof quote?

Phone or send the quote form, mentioning what the roof sits over and roughly how large it is. We arrange a free survey to look at it in person, check the deck and the drainage, then send a free written quote covering the system we recommend and the work involved. No date is booked until you have agreed the quote.
