Flat Roofs

GRP Fibreglass Roofs for Balconies and Extensions

GRP is made on your roof: glass fibre matting is laid over the deck, soaked in resin and cured into one rigid layer with no laps to open up. It is the right call for balconies, roof terraces and awkward shapes with steps, curves or several roof lights, because the laminate follows the roof and is hard enough for regular foot traffic.

  • Cure It resins, trims and topcoats designed to work together
  • Trims fixed first so the laminate wraps over the edges
  • Laminated only on dry days onto a sound, dry deck
  • Damage can be repaired locally later with fresh resin

FAQs

Fibreglass Roofs FAQs

Should I pick GRP or EPDM for my roof?

Each has its place. GRP sets hard, so it suits balconies, roofs that take regular foot traffic, and shapes with lots of corners or roof lights. EPDM rubber is laid as a flexible sheet and copes well with movement on a timber frame. We look at the shape of your roof and how you use it before suggesting one over the other.

Can GRP be used on a balcony?

Yes, and balconies are where GRP earns its keep. The cured laminate is hard enough for regular foot traffic and furniture, and it can be formed around door thresholds and balustrade fixings. A balcony usually needs a stronger deck and careful detailing at the door, so we check the structure before quoting.

How long does a fibreglass roof take to lay?

A typical garage or extension roof is prepared and laminated over one or two days, with the topcoat following once the laminate has cured. Resin is sensitive to damp and low temperatures, so we only laminate on dry days and may adjust the schedule around the forecast. Larger or more detailed roofs take longer.

What affects the price of a fibreglass roof?

The roof area, the number of corners, upstands and roof lights, the state of the deck, and whether the roof will take foot traffic all play a part. A balcony or a roof with many details takes more material and hand work than a plain garage roof. Your quote breaks the work down after we have seen it.

Who looks at my roof before a GRP quote?

We do, in person, and the survey is free. Phone or complete the quote form telling us what the roof covers and its rough size, then we come and look at it, check the deck and drainage, show you the topcoat colours, and send a free written quote for the work.
