Guttering

Guttering and Downpipe Repairs and Replacement

Guttering, or rhones as many people in Scotland call them, catches the water coming off the roof and carries it to the drain. When it overflows, leaks at a joint or drops at one end, it soaks the wall below, rots fascias and can push damp inside. Many faults can be repaired; brittle, cracked or undersized guttering is better replaced.

Half round, square or deep flow profiles to suit the house
Sized to the roof area each run has to drain
Brackets spaced closely and set to a steady fall
Water run through every section to check the flow

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Us for Guttering

Guttering work by Revive Roofing & Repairs

Over 20 years

A family run company with over 20 years' experience

You deal directly with the family that runs the business, from the free survey to the final review of the completed work.

Repairs before replacement

If resealing joints and resetting brackets will last, that is what we quote. A new system is only recommended when the existing guttering is beyond sensible repair.

Sized for heavy rain

New guttering is matched to the roof area it drains, so it copes with the downpours and driving rain that Scottish weather regularly brings.

Emergency help for overflows

A collapsed or badly leaking gutter can soak a wall quickly. Our 24-hour emergency service means we can make it safe and stop the water.

Experienced and fully insured

Over 20 years' experience in home improvements, full insurance for work at height, and a free survey before any guttering work is quoted.

When To Call Us

Signs You Need Guttering

The signs homeowners most often notice before they contact us about this work.

Water spilling over the edge

Overflowing during a downpour points to a blocked outlet, a section sagging between brackets, or guttering undersized for the roof area it drains.

Drips from the joints

Water running from a union or corner piece points to a perished seal, which is often cheaper to fix than a new run.

Green streaks on the wall

Algae and damp stains under a gutter show where water has been running down brickwork or render for some time.

Plants growing in the gutter

Grass and moss sprouting along the eaves mean the gutter has been holding silt and standing water.

Pricing

Guttering Costs

Every roof is different, so we price yours after a free survey. These are the factors that move the figure most for this kind of work.

0800 158 8508

Repair or new system

Clearing and resealing costs less than replacing, so we only quote new guttering when repairs would not last.

Runs and downpipes

Longer runs, more corners and more downpipes mean more material and more fitting time.

Profile and colour

Half round, square and deep flow guttering are priced differently, and so are colours other than standard white or black.

Height of the eaves

Single-storey gutters can be reached from ladders; higher eaves may need a tower or scaffold to work safely.

How It Works

How Our Guttering Service Works

Step 1

Check the whole system

We check every run for blockages, sagging, cracked sections and failed seals, and read the staining on your walls to see where water has been escaping.

Step 2

Clear and test

Gutters and outlets are scooped out and flushed through, so we can see how water flows and find any leaks the debris was hiding.

Step 3

Repair or replace

Depending on what we find, we reset brackets to a fall, renew seals, or take the old system down and fit new uPVC guttering and downpipes.

Step 4

Flow test and review

Water is run through the finished system to check it reaches the drain without dripping, and old sections are taken away. Before we leave, we review the completed work with you on site, then confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Guttering FAQs

Why are my gutters overflowing?

Usually a blockage at the outlet or somewhere along the run, but not always. A gutter that has dropped and lost its fall holds water at the wrong end, and on some houses the guttering was never large enough for the roof area draining into it. We find out which it is before suggesting anything.

Do I need new guttering, or can it be repaired?

If the guttering itself is sound, clearing it, resealing joints and re-aligning the brackets often resolves the problem. Replacement makes more sense when the plastic has gone brittle, sections are cracked, or old cast iron is rusting through. After looking, we explain which of the two your guttering needs and why.

How long will the guttering work take?

On most houses the work is finished within a couple of days; how long each run is, how many downpipes there are and the height of the eaves all play a part. Repairs and clearing are often quicker. If the fascias behind are rotten we may suggest replacing them first, which adds time, and your quote will make that clear.

What decides the cost of guttering work?

Whether it is a repair or a new system, the total length, the number of downpipes and corners, the profile and colour you choose, and how high the eaves are. Your quote lists each part of the work separately, letting you weigh up each one before deciding what to go ahead with.

How do I get a guttering quote?

Phone us or send the quote form, and mention where the water is escaping if you know. The survey and quote are free: we look at the guttering and the roof edge, then send a written quote that says whether you need repairs, new sections or a complete new system.
